Grateful Dead
For life to work, it must be intense in a productive way, I did not say positive, negative, wrong or right. I just said productive, moving forward and working. I will explain what I mean in this article that is about the genuinely funky miracle of what productivity is and is not. First, I would like to say that productivity is not about keeping up with anyone, it is about creating value for yourself, and yourself first and then letting it radiate out to others like a plant naturally grows or a stream naturally flows, or the tides of the ocean naturally flow. Sure, you were expecting me to be unnaturally cold and objective or totally emotional, no, I am keeping a perfect balance in this article to make it intense in a genuinely honest and productive way that works for and helps all who read it. Sure, I can mince words and work them like certain lawyers and politicians, but there is no time for that here. I am going to keep it totally real and workable and not dance like a chicken strutting the seed line.
This is where cold honesty and loving emotion meet, at the junction called integrated application. It meets nowhere else and cannot be avoided in any way. Integrated application is the core of genuine productive effort. If it was not, governments would successfully and ideally do their job without complaints, problems or even the need for private business to help government do its job to an extent. In fact there would be no need for competition or being a business from private sources of any sort. All we would need is big government to solve all of our problems, and live off the “fat of the land.” But human nature would eventually get bored with the “same old thing” and want to grow. That sense of growth is where integrated application is forced to “unnaturally” start because people no matter what would get sick of stagnation and going “nowhere”, indeed, not only would human nature get bored, but the lack of expansion would lead to contraction and destruction. Where else could things go? They cannot expand, so they stagnate and contract, get smaller or they do get forced to grow and expand through the natural force of evolution. Because, indeed, I do tell you this, because of the natural process of time, let us finally face it, genuine stagnation and staying the same is impossible no matter how you look at it or to put it another way: Conscious understanding, growth and action is the only way to create a straight working line from point “A” to point “B” in nature, life, existence and circumstances. Think about it, if a forest were allowed to grow and never tended, would there be any straight line paths through it? No, there would not be. It would all be crooked and messy. So, think about this fact of life: Consciousness is the unifying fact of working life whether we like it or not. So, in the next paragraph I will define grits, sweat and the funky miracle and why it is funky.
Think about it, all genuine conscious effort takes some sort of leaving your comfort zone, and going beyond it with power and strength: that is grits. When you have put out the effort and continue doing so, it generates sweat even on the physical body sometimes or mentally and spiritually. Thus grits and sweat happens in that order, that is why I call these articles “grits and sweat.” Why is consciousness the funky miracle as defined in my articles? Come on! Think about this. Is consciousness man created or defined by nature? Since in many ways it is self, man or woman created and not “nature sown”, it is a strange or to use a more descriptive word, “funky”; it is a funky miracle. Oh, sure I could stop there and let it rest there, but I will tell you more and give you more of my grits and make you sweat more through this article to genuine understanding. The more happily conscious you are, the more powerful you are. The more sadly conscious you are, the weaker you are. When life is good, you are good, you make good. Not necessarily in that order, but you do get the point. “The love you make is the love you take” a famous rock group once said, and well, that is part of what I mean. What you make is what you take and what you are.
Sometimes, there is a saying that “you should get over yourself”, but when you get more conscious of yourself, you get stronger, so what I know that means is get over your destructiveness and feeling sorry for yourself. Strength is built from within, not from keeping up with other people. Power comes from productive use, not from stagnation or unproductive “saving” and hoarding of any sort. Do more and you will make more. Do less and you will make less. I am not saying work hard and fruitlessly though, I am saying work smart, organized, intelligently, honestly and realistically. Use time wisely, and use your grits and sweat to enrich your consciousness, not avoid the issue. Ironically “avoiding the issue” takes more grits and sweat than does living genuinely properly and honestly and being genuinely honest with yourself. Confront your reality, engage and make it work no matter what, and you will be a Master yourself. Congratulations, self interest is the other side of the coin of keeping up with others and trying to please them. Although you are spending the whole coin, you have to have a two sided coin, not a two headed coin, have balance and strength with wisdom, consciousness and understanding, then, all will come to you in the way you genuinely want. Is that not the genuine goal? (I cannot answer that for you, you must answer that for yourself. But, my personal answer is yes.)
My name is Joshua Clayton, I am a freelance writer based in Inglewood, California. I also write under a few pen-names and aliases, but Joshua Clayton is my real name, and I write by that for the most part now. I am a philosophical writer and objective thinker and honest action taker.
I also work at a senior center in Gardena, California as my day job, among other things, but primarily I am a writer. As a kid I did construction work with my Dad which taught me many things like plumbing, hard labor and electrical systems, and I took notes for my Dad’s home poker games at my Uncle Johnnie Gilmore’s house, so I have a lot of life experience, sure. But I went to Cal State Dominguez Hills College, UCLA, and El Camino Junior College and learned a lot, but never got around to getting a degree, just lots of money spent, good grades and some credits. So, here I am currently freelance writing and working at a senior center for a living.
But enough details of my life, what I do is not what I am. So here is what I enjoy, I enjoy reading, listening to music (everything from Beethoven, Strauss and Bach to The Meters, ELO and The Band and Dylan/Garcia and The Grateful Dead also, when they were the Grateful Dead. Well, as you can tell by SOME of the music I listen to, I am a very eclectic person.) I am also a deep science fiction fan and as said before, a lover of books.
