The late, great gloved one, Michael Jackson, was the undisputed King of Pop. To millions he brought excitement and smiles and joy. His style was as incredible as his music. He was constantly breaking new ground with his sartorial genius.
Now, shortly after he has left us, Michael Jackson Costumes will undoubtedly be the hit of the 2009 Halloween season. The media is reporting a huge buzz regarding the licensing of Michael Jackson Halloween costumes. In fact the demand has been so great that there have actually been lawsuits already regarding which manufacturers are going to offer which items.
This is to be expected. MJ’s wardrobe was varied, unique, dazzling…insert whatever adjective here that you’d like and you probably wouldn’t be far off in describing MJ’s attire.
From the single glove to the red leather outfit worn in the Thriller video to the sequin filled Billie Jean outfit, expect to see a lot of Michael Jackson this Halloween season. Just think for a moment and see how many different outfits you can remember the King Of Pop wearing. There are literally hundreds of combinations including the military style dress uniform that Michael made famous. Even his pajama outfit that he wore to court made a statement.
Michael obviously had some legal problems that many will point to as being the reason that they feel we should not be honoring him with this talk of costumes, but this isn’t about his legal problems at all. This is solely a way to remember and honor a musical genius. An entertainer nonpareil.
Halloween is a little over a month away. I am sure we will see a surge of promotion and marketing for Michael Jackson costumes. His brothers sought to keep the imagery and legend moving forward by each wearing the single glove at his memorial service. His sister Janet will undoubtedly put on an unbelievable performance on the MTV Video Music Awards show, and who can forget the 13,000 plus people who broke the Guinness World Record recently for the biggest Thriller dance routine.
