Pineapple Express is a 2008 stoner-action comedy film starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, which was released on August 6, 2008. The film was directed by David Gordon Green and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, from a story by Rogen, Goldberg, and producer Judd Apatow.
Dale Denton (Rogen), a lazy stoner visits his equally lazy dealer, Saul Silver (Franco), to purchase marijuana, specifically a rare new strain called Pineapple Express. By accident, Dale witnesses a murder by a crooked police officer Carol Brazier (Rosie Perez) and the city’s most dangerous drug lord, Ted Jones (Gary Cole). In panic, he flees the scene and accidentally drops his roach of Pineapple Express. Dale speedily drives back to Saul to find out if the strain of marijuana is so rare that it could be traced back to him. The two are forced to run for their lives, they quickly discover they are not suffering from paranoia from the pot, rather the bad guys are hot on their tracks trying to kill them.
The movie finished production in May of 2007. Major parts of the movie were filmed at the Daily Breeze Newspaper in Torrance, California. On December 6, 2007, the MPAA rated the film with an R for pervasive language, drug use, sexual references, and violence. The Pineapple Express Trailer features the track “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. which has become a popular ringtone.
